Frazer Designers entered the digital TV revolution at the ground floor with BSkyB in 1996. For the next 18 years Jonathan Knight led teams designing TV remote controls and set top boxes for Sky, Philips, ADB, UEI, Kabel Deutschland and other brands in Europe and the USA.

The design of Sky remotes was rooted in comprehensive user research, now called co-design, where end users and the client team were involved in the design of the ergonomics and usability of the handsets. This included the form of the handset, configuration of the buttons and interaction with the on-screen user interface.

​

Common to all these TV service brands was working with multi-disciplinary client teams to develop a distinctive look and feel for their consumer products in an increasingly competitive market.

​

After 20 years many of these designs are in daily use by tens of millions of people across Britain and Europe.
