Guestkey is an integrated hotel room and security system installed in many of the world's top hotels. It marries the traditional charm of a door key with 21st century electronic system management.

 

The challenge

 

Design a high security key with high intrinsic value and low cost manufacture that can be given away to guests after their stay. Also develop a networked plug-and-play lock barrel and bespoke range of solid metal lock plates. 

 

The design

 

The solution is a two shot moulded polycarbonate key, coded using laser technology and optically verified by the lock. A clear inner lightguide transmits red or green light to the head of the key to confirm access status to the keyholder. The lock barrels containing the reader electronics are networked with the central control desk and billing system.
