Opening new markets with design

Paxton Access are using design as part of their strategy to expand existing markets and break into new ones. Their business is built on the manufacture and supply of innovative access control systems distributed through a network of independent installers.

Their brief to Frazer Designers was for the design of a flagship range of user terminals to complement their recently launched Net2 Internet Protocol (IP) access control system.

The challenge

The teminals had to not only be easy and straightforward to use, but as simple as possible to install and commission by third party installers.

The external panel needed to have surface and flush mount options and the monitor be either fixed to a wall or a desk stand.

The design

Up to 100 external entry panels and 1000 internal video monitors can networked together. The external panel is tough and environmentally resistant to moisture and ultra-violet light. For this we developed and engineered a robust, waterproof, back lit keypad.

The internal monitor is operated with a touch screen and intuitive user interface. The handset uses magnets to hold it in place and activate the on-hook switch making for an elegant cradle with no moving parts.
